612

612 is T_boyoffical, SlimTim, Lille Leon and professional hypeman Bønna. 612’s naive yet melodic sound presents a universe of questionable moral decisions and cunning ways to get what they want. With beats served up by Moggger and SlimTim, there’s no doubt the neighbours will be filing complaints – but in spite of that, 612’s sound has spread throughout Norway, resulting in sold out shows in several cities.

Ängie

Ängie’s light, catchy hiphop is like a Stockholm take on Spring Breakers. It’s about living decadently every day, and being OK with that. The result is ambivalent melodies over hard bass drums and an attitude we’ve rarely encountered in a Swedish artist before. Party hiphop and R&B in a mischievous and bold disguise.

ARY

ARY (Ariadne Loinsworth), who grew up in Trondheim and is currently based in Oslo, has spent the past six months building up her career in fine style. With tracks like ‘Childhood Dreams’ and ‘Already There’, she’s been predicted a great future by the likes of The Fader, Pigeons & Planes, Interview Magazine, NYLON and the Line of Best Fit. ARY has found her place in the world of electronic pop with her alluring voice over thundering rhythms and captivating synths. Her roots are partly in Norway, partly in the rainbow island of Trinidad, which adds an exotic element to her music and extends her already broad range of influences.

Bendik HK

Bendik HK is hardly unknown: as a drummer he has played with a bunch of acclaimed artists in recent years, such as Pantha du Prince, Ivan Ave, Marit Larsen, NIls Bech, Hanne Hukkelberg and Charlotte dos Santos. As a solo artist he draws on house, techno, collage and ambient. He explores sound continuity and nostalgia on deep bass drums and rhythmic synth chords over the top. Bendik HK has only released one track so far, the lovely almost ten-minute ‘Indigo Interceptor’. But new sounds are promised for by:Larm.

Bisse

Denmark has raised a groundbreaking performer and a very unique songwriter whose work is full of brains, bite, and brimming over with energy. Beneath the alias ‘Bisse’ (meaning: rascal or scallywag) we find 29 year old Thorbjørn Radisch; a young man who has recently released 5 albums of exceptional quality over a period of just 18 months. The critics have compared him to everything from a dark young Nick Cave to the androgynous, self promotional Bowie, but in reality Bisse defies genre-pigeonholing, what he does however, is deliver the whole shebang.

Company Ink.

Trondheim-based band with clear references to 80s guitar pop and post-punk, interspersed with elements from hiphop and electronic music.

Emilie Adams

My music comes from a dark place, but the creative process is a positive one.’ To Emilie Adams lyrics and music is a way to communicate honestly. ‘Music and melody is important. But the lyrics are even more important. To me.’ she says. ‘My lyrics are personal, conveying my experiences, feelings and thoughts.’ Musically Emilie references dark electronic, such as Banks and Lorde, as well as alternative and pop, such as MØ, Lana del Rey and Coldplay.

Emma Jensen

Producer and singer-songwriter Emma Jensen recorded ‘Closer’ in her bedroom in Nesodden. This indie single took the 20 year old to the final of Urørt, followed by more than 10 million streams on Spotify and YouTube. Afterwards she released ‘Make You Mine’, which she wrote with American Tayla Parx (Alicia Keys, Ariana Grande, Demi Lovato). Last year Emma played at Slottsfjell and Ja Ja Ja in London, and will unveil some new music at her first by:Larm appearance.

Esther Vallee

World class pop that will have you hooked in seconds. This talented songwriter is a (Swedish) west coast native, born just outside Gothenburg. She sings about sorrowful darkness and subjects not often touched on, with a mystical and thought provoking persona. Her music has already caught the eye of international tastemakers such as Clash Magazine, Popjustice & Spotify.

Familjen

Mostly known as Familjen; Swedish electropop artist, songwriter and music producer Johan Tommy Karlsson, coming back with his electronic pop album!

Farao

Farao is the musical identity of Norwegian singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Kari Jahnsen. Hailing from Ulnes, a small village of 500 people in the Nordic mountain valley of Valdres, Farao creates intricate, enchanting music that reflects the dramatic yet serene environments of her origin. Her songs bear a vibrant surface beauty, while deftly revealing the depths within. With Jahnsen performing all instrumentation other than drums and brass, Farao’s newest music rests on complex arrangements, deep sonics, and her seductive lilt.

Fay Wildhagen

Easy to love but hard to describe, Fay Wildhagen seamlessly mixes soundscapes with a casual disregard for trends and genres. Her reference points are many and varied, with influences such as Arcade Fire, Feist and Bon Iver peeping through. But the organic musical landscape she inhabits is very much her own. At 21 she was already considered a guitar virtuoso in her native Norway; she is unpretentious and quirky, yet focused and ambitious about writing and performing.

GRANT

Grant is the pop persona of Caroline Cederlöf. Her music places strong emphasis on her strong voice and feelings. Her first single ‘Waterline’ was produced by Johan Karlsson from Familjen, and she’ll release her debut album in early 2018. She has previously played at Peace & Love and Red Bull Sound Select in Stockholm.

Halie

Seventeen year old Halie from Bergen, Norway, carries a voice unimaginable for her age. She debuted at Vill Vill Vest in September and NME, Line of Best Fit and I-D Magazine all named her performance a festival highlight. Halie has since been announced to Bergenfest and Slottsfjell next year, and has signed to Made Management (Sigrid, Aurora, dePresno, Sondre Lerche). Halie’s catchy debut single «Echo» was released in September on Soundcloud and the Norwegian demo platform Urørt, and her first official singel will be available on all platforms in November 2017.

Iris Gold

Iris Gold’s story begins in Copenhagen’s anarchistic enclave of Christiania, where the young singer spent a nomadic childhood in a creative arts community. 70s psychedelia and hippie counterculture such as Jefferson Airplane, The Doors and The Mamas and the Papas formed the soundtrack of her life. Later she moved to London, where she quickly found herself sharing the stage with artists like Miguel, Blur, Taylor Swift and Robbie Williams. She blends flowerpower with hiphop and pop in her own unique style.

Jada

Jada recently released her first official single ‘Keep Cool’, which has received international support from BBC Radio1, Highsnobiety, The Line of Best Fit, Complex, Majestic Casual, Hilly Dilly, The Beat Juice and others. It’s obvious that Jada has the potential to reach beyond the Danish borders and raise awareness on the international music scene.

“With subtle, noodling guitar, slinky percussion, and that restrained, sultry, Jessie Ware-eque vocal, new single “Keep Cool” establishes Denmark’s Jada as another Nordic songstress to watch in 2018.”
-The Line of Best Fit

Jimmy Smash

Everyone wants to make R&B right now, but Jimmy Smash – the duo of Mikkel Graham Guttormsen and Håvard Lyngstad – know how. By breaking the most used tendencies in commercial Norwegian music, they’re revitalising the local urban flora. The quiet storm-inspired approach to pop challenges traditional song structure and blends sensual productions with impossibly catchy refrains. Mikkel and Håvard are two 24-year-olds from Fredrikstad. They write and produce the music themselves – with references to American urban and pop heroes such as J Dilla, Quincy Jones, Bon Iver and Anderson. Paak.

Konni Kass

Konni Kass grew up on the Faroe Islands with the ocean and nature all around, and maybe more importantly: the music. After a short stay at the jazz vocalist education in Sweden and the medicine study in Copenhagen, she took a break and moved back to the Faroe Islands to focus on her music where she later founded the band Konni Kass. Together with her new band members, and Faroese artist and producer, Benjamin Petersen, Konni Kass wrote, recorded and produced her debut album Haphe. The result of this was a universe, where the soulful voice of Konni Kass merged together with a soundscape of synths and space effects.

Kristian Kristensen

Kristian Kristensen has been a part of the Norwegian folk scene for a long time, and at the age of 25 has already a couple of solid classics on his conscience. ‘Lyset’ was his breakthrough, sending the man from Harstad straight to the top of the Urørt final. Shortly after that you could find ‘Kan Du Lære Mæ?’ high up on streaming and radio charts. The track went swiftly platinum, and secured him a nomination for hit of the year in the Spellemann prize 2016. Since then he has taken part in several of the biggest TV programmes with appearances that have left everyone stunned.

Mountain Bird & Amanda Mair

Two of Sweden’s most promising upcoming acts join forces in an unique live show mixing elements of future bass and dark pop. Adam Öhman, known as Mountain Bird is a Stockholm-based producer creating a world of indie-electronica. Synth laden melodies and melancholic beats paint a picture of dreamy Scandinavian melancholy. Amanda Mair is a Stockholm native who gained attention as a teenager with her debut single, “House” in 2011. The Washington Post praised her grown up Kate Bush sounds, while Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet described her album as one of the best Swedish debut albums of all time.

Ola Kvernberg’s Steamdome III

Steamdome is pure percussive music. Progressive and brutally steaming ahead like a runaway train. Lively, surrealistic and pulsating like a Sergio Leone spaghetti western. Steamdome fizzes with visual energy. The music careers between steep cliff edges, wide panoramas, tight turns, and nocturnal landscapes where the only constant is the chugging rhythm of an unstoppable train that never stops. The Spellemann-nominated debut album was released on Grappa in December 2017, and received critical acclaim rare for an instrumental album. Ola Kvernberg has hand-picked a powerful machine of musicians, and at by:Larm he’ll be on stage with Erik Nylander (Mechanical Fair, Liarbird) and Bent Sæther (Motorpsycho, Sugarfoot) as the power trio Steamdome III.

Scarlet Pleasure

During 2017 Scarlet Pleasure – vocalist Emil Goll, drummer Joachim Dencker and bassist Alexander Malone – have been steadily delivering hit after hit. The band recently received Denmark’s Hit of the Year Award for ‘Deja Vu’ and Group of the Year 2017 at the Danish Music Awards. The band, founded back while still at school, have created an out of the ordinary pop music by pushing themselves out of their comfort zone whenever they write new music.

Reykjavíkurdætur

Reykjavíkurdætur («Daughters of Reykjavík») is a women’s rap collective based in Reykjavík, Iceland. These femcees are known for their daring lyrics that discuss politics, feminism and sexual abuse. The collective resembles a «clan» where songs are performed by solo artists, duos and trios, as well as a group. This makes Reykjavíkurdætur’s concerts versatile, fresh and will probably be one of the most energetic performances you have ever seen. If you want to see some Icelanders spit, slam and rock out, check out Reykjavíkurdætur’s performance at by:Larm 2018.

Rytmeklubben

Rytmeklubben is a self-professed ‘club boyband’ who started playing their individual music live as a group. They developed their sound alongside fellow countryman Cashmere Cat. First releasing singles like ‘Seen’ and ‘Girlfriend’ independently, then remixing pop heavy hitters like Zayn Malik, and Kelly Clarkson. Rytmeklubben’s new single ‘Impatience’ is more elastic pop, wearing its influences of glossy RnB, pop, melodic grime, trance and rap. Mixing the genre-splicing exuberance of the underground with a typically Nordic flair for melody, Rytmeklubben are the future of pop.

Sløtface

Sløtface recently released their album Try Not To Freak Out to glowing reviews both internationally and in Norway. When it came out, both worldwide and local press got behind them and praised their punk-pop, which expresses bold attitudes and opinions. The band has been mentioned on websites and publications such as the Guardian, Fader, Billboard, NME, Noisey, Rock Sound, Paste, Clash and Consequence of Sound. Vocalist Haley Shea was also hailed as one of the coolest rock artists in the world by Kerrang!
